This main home structure consists of three separate units arranged in a modified dog-trot style, designed to optimize the Florida climate. The primary living space features the Palm, a spacious living room with an exposed scissor-jointed ceiling and roof. The Palm is well-known for its Palmetto fiber wall covering. Other rooms include the Snug, which functions as a library, den, and office, and the Retreat, serving as a bedroom and bath. The Cuckoo is located to the south of the living area and is a separate room used today as a bedroom with an attached bath. The third section of The Nest comprises a dining room, a kitchen with a small nook, and the Lazarette, a storage and washing area. All sections of The Nest are connected by porches, breezeways, or halls.
